Bedford County --  December, 2019

The Bedford County Pink Ribbon Fund may be most known for our October Walk/Run, but the steering committee works year-round to spread the word about the fund and opportunities to assist local families dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis.

During the holidays, Pink Ribbon displays could be found in Everett, as Angie Shaffer and Kim McGee decorated a parking meter as part of the EABBA's Christmas decorating initiative.

The pair also created a light display as part of the Chamber Foundation's Holiday Nights of Lights at the Bedford County Fairgrounds.  The Pink Ribbon was constructed by students from the Bedford County Technical Center, and stood next to a tree made of lights, topped by our signature pink butterfly, a sign of hope.

Pink Ribbon volunteers can also be found at events like Downtown on the Farm and Pink Nights at local sporting events, working to raise funds and awareness about the support available through the fund.

NEWS RELEASE:  Bedford County Pink Ribbon Fund Helps Local Families

The Bedford County Pink Ribbon Fund is pleased to announce their continuing efforts to support local breast cancer patients and their families.

Proceeds from Pink Ribbon Walks/Runs since 2017, as well as additional donations have been deposited into the Fund of the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies/Bedford County Endowments. The Fund was established to assist Bedford County residents battling the disease.  Funds continue to be distributed to numerous Bedford County families through gas cards, meals, and assistance with other expenses related to needs which arise from cancer treatments.

The Fund is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of fund recipients due to the sensitive nature of their medical conditions. All funds are distributed in accordance with the guidelines established at the formation of the Fund.   Applications are reviewed by the Allocations Committee, comprised of breast cancer survivors and chaired by Tisia Maxwell.

“I am very excited to see that the funds raised are being used to help relieve the financial burden of breast cancer treatment for those in our community,” said Maxwell.  “Our hope is to be able to continue help many families in the future as well.

The Fund continues to accept requests for assistance.  Bedford County breast cancer patients or their caregivers may contact the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies or the Fund allocations committee for more information or to receive an assistance application:
